Cup Match

6-March-2010: Tavistock Thistles 0 - Horrabridge Rangers 9

Horrabridge went through to the cup semi final in style after a compact and efficient performance at a Tavistock side who were short on confidence. The game started with Thistles making the early running and pushing Horrabridge back earning an early corner but it was a false dawn as soon Horrabridge broke through the Tavistock defence with Josh Broughton slotting home for the first of his five goals. Horrabridge proved to be solid at the back with Tavistock limited to half chances but the game remained at 1-0 for a while as Tavistock showed some resilience. Josh stepped up to slot home his second half way through the first half and followed it up to complete his hatrick soon afterwards. Good play by the Horrabridge midfield was finished off by Martin Hoar who gave the bridge their 4th goal of the first half. With 10 minutes until half time Horrabridge brought on their subs Lewis Eglington and Sam Grindell. Both players showing good form with Sam going very close to scoring before half time. Just before the half time whistle Josh Broughton sped down the left hand side of the pitch and found him self with the tightest of angles he played a half cross half shot across the goal but just too quick for Jon Brimble speeding in at the far post who missed by a whisker but then watched the ball spin in off the far post for Josh's 4th goal. Jon's performance as Captain during the game to protect the defence earned him a lot of respect from the team but that first goal still eluded him.

At half time Horrabridge had to play up the hill at Lamerton but again kept control of the situation. Soon going 6 in front with Josh's fifth and final goal of the game. With the game pretty much in the bag Horrabridge started to move the ball around with Sam Grindell putting the ball in the net only for an offside to be awarded and the goal dis-allowed. Lewis Eglington showed his credentials with a number of powerful runs into the box being rewarded with his first goal for the club. Jordan Eales again showed his versatility setting up one of the goals and taking over in defensive midfield when one of the defenders had to depart to get to Argyle forcing Jon Brimble back into the central defence. With the game drawing to a close, Josh Broughton was also taken off and Kieran Alford moving from the right of midfield into attack. Kieran had played a superb game on the right of midfield and was now replaced by Martin Hoar who after having a rest showed what a good player he is with some superb crosses. One such cross was cleared by the Tavistock defence but, finding some space, Joshua Bainbridge cracked a shot goalwards from the half way mark effectively clearing the keeper and finding the back of the net to give the bridge their 8th goal. Lewis capped off the performance by scoring his second with a strong finish after some solid work in midfield by Rob Pearce. The Horrabridge defence played really well during the game with Dan Timmins in goal happy to record a clean sheet. Chris Argles and Sam Lloyd played well in the full back positions stopping all but the most speculative of shots on the Horrabridge Goal.

After the Match, Josh Broughton was awarded the Man of the Match for Horrabridge while Mike Henderson got the accolade for Tavistock. Rob Pearce was the Horrabridge 110% award winner. Horrabridge now look forward to a semi-final clash against Lipson on the 20th March.

League Match

19-December-2009: Looe Town 4 - Horrabridge Rangers 4

Horrabridge continued their unbeaten run with a closely fought battle end with honors even on a semi frozen Looe Town pitch. Horrabridge were undefeated since the 10th October and Looe had only lost one game all season so at the start it looked like being a close affair. Looe started brightly but Horrabridge got into the game quickly after some initial trouble slipping on the pitch.

Horrabridge broke the deadlock after a superb speculative shot by captain Kieran Alford skipped across the surface of the 18 yrd box and went through the legs of the Looe Keeper. Kieran was playing as a centre forward for the first time this season and was ably assisted by Josh Broughton who chased down many balls to put Looe under a great deal of pressure winning a number of corners. Looe started to fight back and although saw less of the play, broke from midfield to fire an equalizer past Dan Timmins in the Horrabridge goal. Horrabridge struck back when a through ball found Josh Broughton goal side of the Looe defence and he slotted it home in the far corner of the goal for a 2-1 lead. At halftime with a slender lead Horrabridge looked to try and get another goal to extend their lead but Looe again pulled level after the Looe attacker turned the Horrabridge defence to power home their second goal. The two Horrabridge wingers Chris Argles and Sam Lloyd had had an excellent game working the pitch from end to end. By using the wingers to their best effect Horrabridge again took the lead after Chris was fouled on the edge of the box. Kieran Alford put the ball into a dangerous position from the free kick and a deflection put the ball into the Looe net. Some of the Horrabridge players were feeling the pace of the game and the manager needed to give the substitutes a run out but they all found it difficult to get up to the speed that the game was being played at. Looe took advantage by scoring the next 2 goals to take a lead for the first time in the match. Horrabridge started to gel with their substitutes and a through ball from Kieran Alford put debutant Owen Carruthers down the right wing only for him to be bundled off the ball on the right edge of the 18 yard box. Kieran Alford again took the resulting free kick producing another superb ball onto the head of central defender Josh Bainbridge to power home the Horrabridge equalizer. Other notable performances by the Horrabridge team included Kieran Johnson in his first game at left back and great communication between Jon Brimble, Josh Bainbridge and Adam Cowen-King at the back to keep a normally free scoring Looe team to a minimal number of shots on target. Jordan Eales and Robert Pearce also had great games in the centre of Midfield. The result puts Horrabridge within 3 points of 4th place in the league with Looe moving up to 2nd place on goal difference.

The 110% player was Chris Argles and the man of the match was Josh Broughton.
